The Swan |
Taerah Fleetpaw |
A wooden paddle |
You are paddling away in your little long boat that you were given as a gift from the shrews. The water is as clam as the bright summer sky above that has not even one cloud in it. You come around a bend and notice that it all of a sudden got really quiet; TOO quiet. You continue to paddle, catiously now, as you stroke threw the weedy opening into a small lake. infront of you is a swan that is fast asleep. Your afraid that your splashing with the paddle as you move might wake im. To late. He notices your apearance out of thin air, and rears up in front of you. There is no time to paddle away, he's charging in your direction. All you have is your wooden paddle, and of course your boat, but since you have to sit in it, that definatly won't come in handy. |
Completed by Reed Keeneye
The swan awoke, and started attacking. My first instinct was to freeze, as squirrels tend to do when faced with danger, but because of my dibbun-hood with the river shrews, I flipped the boat over instead. The bottom of the canoe protected me from the swan's bites, but not from his wrath. Bad thing number 1: It was one smart--or very touchy--swan, and rocked the craft. Bad thing number 2: My air was running out. Leaving the safety of the overturned boat, I swam to the surface and let only my head go above. Unfortunately, I surfaced too near to him, and he spotted me. I knew I was in trouble, but not how to get out of it. As I swimming back up the stream, I hoped he just wanted to defend his territory, and not eat lunch. Possibility one was correct. I inched out of the freezing water, lit a fire, and waited for dusk.
I had gone over my plan 10 times or more by twilight. I silently dove into the ice-cold water and headed in the direction of the boat. Reaching the canoe wasn't the hard part, it was getting into it and past the swan. After several failed attempts at crawling into it, I decided to try just one more time. I finally met success, but in waking the swan instead. Hastily, I ducked into the hollow of the craft, and kicked with all my might. The bird gave up the chase only when the water in the river became too shallow. I waited awhile before landing the boat, and promtly fell asleep on the bank.
When I woke, I left the craft and headed for the trees. I wasn't long before I reach the abbey, and I headed for the kitchens. Why not chomp on a scone while searching for the abbess to report to... |
The Serpent |
Taerah Fleetpaw |
A vine and a broken sword |
You wake abruptly in the night, by a loud hissing. Your in the middle of the forest, all by yourself, and it's darkness evelops you as you sit on the wet grass, your heart beating loudly. All of a sudden the hissing gets louder and a shuddering tree in front of you knocks you to your sences. As quickly as the serpent bangs through the trees you have your weapon. The only problem was that in your hurry to pull it out of the tree, the tip cracked off. You look feriously around for something else to use, but all you see is a hanging vine. With the broken sword and the vine, how would you be able to kill a full-sized posionous monster? As you wonder, the blind snake sences your presence, and is slithering ever nearer to where you now stand. |
Completed by Kamrii Swiftpaw
You decided to make yourself less known. The snake can still smell you, but if you're out of range, it's harder to be detected. You scurry up a nearby tree, watching the snake carefully. You have two options. Hit and run, or just run. You figure that if you run away, the snake could show up at the abbey, so your only option is to fight. You time the snake's movements, and calculate your own. The blunt sword is more useful than you thought. You swing down from the tree on the vine, landing on its neck right behind its head. You slam the dull sword onto its head. The snake's eyes roll back into its skull, and it is knocked senseless for the moment. You work quickly. Tugging on the vine, it snaps off the tree branch. You tie the serpent's mouth shut, and look it in the eye. Now for the tricky part. Although he's retrained, the moment you try to kill him would wake him up, and the bonds would be worn away. You only think for a moment, before noticing that, yes. Even though the tip is broken off, then there are two sharps edges to the flat top, am I not right? Positioning yourself above the snake's nostrils, you hold the sword on an angle, then slam it down into its nose. It's immediately awakened, struggling to get free. You have no choice but to hang on. You thrust the sword down a few more times, and to your horror, it breaks the bonds! Blood is now everywhere, and it recoils on you violently, hissing loudly, mouth wide open. Bad mistake for the poor snake. You jam the sword into it's mouth the long way, propping it open. Furious, the snake bites down, sending the sword through the roof of its mouth. Its eyes cloud over as it gives one last struggle before slumping lifelessly to the ground. You ignore your sword, not in the mood to retrieve it. You figure you'd ask Raena to make one for you at the forge back at home. For now you could dream about blueberry pasties in peace. |

Season: Autumn
# of companions: 3
# of vermin: 2 score (40)
After the nameday for the autumn, one of the dibbuns was playing on the battlements and was kidnapped by a small horde of vermin, wanting revenge on the abbey. You and three of your companions go out to recover the dibbun and defeat the vermin horde. The abbey hasn't had a warrior in countless seaons and the sword of Martin has not been found. Out in Mossflower woods, you find the horde, but are unsure if you can defeat them with your meager weapons. The dibbun is in a sack at the middle of camp next to the fire and the vermin leader Big Brush the fox. Most of the vermin have archery experience and have a dagger, and a bow to use. All the rest of the vermin have short swords and a few lances. Big Brush has a rusty battle axe and the knowledge to use it. Before Big Brush left the abbey, he left a note saying to bring all the valuables in the abbey in exchange for the dibbun. You have five sunsets to complete this task, 5 sunsets before Big Brush murders the dibbun. Can you do it in time? What would you do? And more importantly, when would you do it? |
Trapped of Earth |
Jack Shroud Sparra |
Sword, Spear, and Grappling Hook |
As you walk through a pine grove, the stench of vermin is high in the air. You have been searching for the vermin for one hour now. Suddenly a painted one jumps out from nowhere. You jump sideways as it leaps. Straight into a deep hole! Mud is up to your elbows and one paw is free, painted ones crowd around the top, watching. Suddly a vine comes in your grasp. How will you escape? How will you escape the mud which is quick drying? One question remains, can you? |
Completed by Tussilo Wildpaw
"Stupid quick drying mud.." I whisper to myself. "How on earth am I going to get out of here?"
Tussilo reaches up and grabs hold of the vine. He gives it a sharp tug and its comes falling down intothe pit. it lands on top of his head.
"Great. How helpful. A vine thats not attatched to anything....Hmm...this gives me an idea though." Tussilo reaches down into the quickly drying mud. The mud has dryed so fast that his bottom legs and paws are now unmovable. He sifts around in the mud untill his paw comes in contact with the spear that had fallen down with him. He grabs hold of it and pulls with all his strength. The spear pops out of the mud with a squeltch. he then proceeds to tie one end of the vine to the middle of the spear.
"There, now, if only i can get this to spread diagonally accross the top of the pit..."
Tussilo throws the spear upwards with all his might. The point sails out of the pit with the vine trailing behind. He then gives the vine a sharp tug making the spear straighten out sideways. It lands with a clatter lying lengthways accross the hole.
"Oh good, Now i can shimmey on up this vine and take out some rage on those pesky painted ones." "Hmm, but what to do about this mud....oh, I know!" Tussilo reaches down into the mud again. His whole chest and lower body has been completly entombed in mud. He comes in contact with the small sword that had also fallen down with him. He pulls it free and then begins chopping away at the hard mud. Dirt clods fly everywhere as the determined hare chops away at the mud that has now turned to clay. He soon frees his chest and begins work on the his lower body and legs. Its nearly noontime when he finally gets free. He shoves the dirt-caked sword into his mouth. He bites down on it and then grips the vine firmly. Tussilo begins his climb to the top. Paw by paw he pulls himself up and out of the horrid pit. He steps on firm ground and brushes some leftover dirt from his fur. He looks around.
"Hmmm, all the bally painted thingys have flown the coop. Oh well. We'll have to dance the dance of death some other time I suppose.." He stashes the sword in his belt and then runs off back home towards Rosewood Abbey. |
